Job summary

City of Commerce seeks a journey-level payroll paraprofessional to support payroll and related accounting activities. The role prepares and processes bi-weekly payroll, taxes, deductions and benefits under general supervision.

Incumbents reconcile payroll accounts, review timesheets, generate reports, and coordinate with departments. Requires an associate degree or 60 semester/90 quarter units and two years of municipal payroll experience, plus a CA driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 60 semester/90 quarter units in accounting, business or public administration, finance or a closely related field.
• Two years of payroll experience in a municipal setting.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide responsible technical assistance in payroll administration; reconcile payroll accounts.
• Download electronic timesheets, review for accuracy, and process payroll including taxes and deductions.
• Prepare quarterly and year-end payroll functions; respond to deductions inquiries.
• Maintain payroll systems and procedures; test changes in tax tables and legislation.
• Coordinate payroll with operating departments and assist in reporting to the GL.
