Job summary

The City of Pasadena Finance Department, Payroll Division, seeks a Payroll Specialist to perform complex payroll duties using Tyler Munis and IntelliTime VTI. You will review, reconcile, and process payroll documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with MOUs, CalPERS rules, and tax regulations.

The ideal candidate has an Associate’s degree in accounting or related field and at least four years of payroll experience, preferably in a public agency, with strong data entry and customer service

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in accounting or related field and 4+ years of payroll experience.
• Public agency payroll experience preferred.
• Background screening including fingerprinting and credit check is required.
• Experience applying payroll policies, MOUs, and CalPERS rules is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and processes payroll and related financial documents.
• Maintains payroll records for employee changes, deductions, direct deposits, and tax adjustments.
• Provides timely, professional customer service on payroll matters.
• Balances and prepares payroll tax returns and deposits.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state wage/hour laws, tax regulations, and city MOUs.
• Ensures timely close of payroll and accuracy of payroll transactions.
• Verifies data entry and resolves discrepancies.
• Prepares direct deposit transmissions to the bank.
• Calculates final checks for separating employees.
• Completes verification of employment documents and payroll-related deductions.
