Job summary

City of Lake Alfred is seeking a skilled Mechanic to diagnose, maintain, and repair a variety of vehicles and equipment, including light/heavy-duty trucks and public-works machinery. Overtime or alternate hours may be required.

Essential duties include diagnosing and repairing engines and systems, performing preventive maintenance per manufacturer checklists, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards while keeping accurate work orders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED.
• Auto/truck maintenance certification or ASE certification.
• Three (3) years of mechanic experience.
• Florida Driver’s License; CDL preferred.
• Must provide own mechanic tools.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair engines, brakes, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and drive-train systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance using manufacturer and Fleet checklists.
• Complete work orders, verify mileage, order parts, and confirm warranty status.
• Maintain shop equipment and follow OSHA, EPA, DOT, and safety standards.

Mechanic Full Time | Public Services Department

The City of Lake Alfred is seeking a skilled Mechanic to perform diagnosis, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including light/heavy-duty trucks, utility vehicles, and specialized public-works equipment. Overtime or alternate hours may be required.

Essential Duties

• Diagnose and repair engines, brakes, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and drive-train systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance using manufacturer and Fleet checklists.
• Complete work orders, verify mileage, order parts, and confirm warranty status.
• Maintain shop equipment and follow OSHA, EPA, DOT, and safety standards.

Minimum Requirements

Physical Requirements

Heavy lifting; frequent standing, bending, and equipment use; exposure to heat, noise, odors, and confined spaces; PPE required.
