Job summary

City of Chicago is hiring a Bricklayer for the Division of In-House Construction under the Chicago Department of Transportation. The position offers a starting salary of $54.81 per hour, with standard hours from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, at 1501 W Pershing Rd.

The role requires completion of a bricklayer apprenticeship and journeyman status, or equivalent experience as listed, with eligibility under the BRICKLAYERS- LOCAL 21 bargaining unit.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a US Department of Labor registered bricklayer apprenticeship training program and journeyman status.
• If criteria above not fulfilled, alternative: completion of apprenticeship program as Bricklayer plus two years journey level experience, or
• Five years of experience as a Bricklayer.

Responsibilities

• Review blueprints, work orders, and instructions to plan repairs and order tools/materials.
• Build or repair walls, floors, appurtenances using brick, tile, and concrete blocks.
• Construct catch basins, gutter boxes, manholes, and appurtenances with masonry materials.
• Spread mortar to base bricks; position bricks in mortar base.
• Lay bricks, rebuild manholes, and connect drain lines to main sewer.

Education

US Department of Labor registered bricklayer apprenticeship training program and journeyman status

Industry or company sponsored apprenticeship training program as a Bricklayer + 2 years journey level experience

Five years of experience as a Bricklayer
