The City of Riverside is seeking a City Manager to coordinate the city’s administrative activities and operations, advising the City Council with independent judgment and initiative.
The incumbent will oversee staff, prepare and administer budgets, develop long-term capital plans, and liaise with residents and outside agencies to ensure effective city governance. This is an at-will, exempt position appointed by the City Council.
The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of City Manager.
Subject to policy direction by the City Council, the City Manager* will coordinate the overall administrative activities and operations of the city; advise and assist the City Council exercising independent judgment and initiative; and do related work as required.
*This position is designated as non-classified and is exempt from the classified service. The Incumbent shall be appointed "at-will" and serve at the pleasure of the City Council.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in public administration or a closely related field. A Master’s degree is highly preferred and may substitute for two years of the required experience.
Ten years of progressively responsible administrative managerial or leadership experience in municipal government which includes three (3) years as a director, deputy director or other senior management level.
The selection process will begin with an employment application package screening, with the best qualified candidates being invited to participate further in the assessment process. This process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job‑related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Those who successfully complete the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list for this classification.

Positions that require, or may require, a California Commercial Driver’s License are considered Safety Sensitive and are monitored by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
