Job summary

City of Leander seeks a policy-focused professional to manage the legislative program under the Assistant City Manager. The role emphasizes building relationships with local, state, and federal officials and analyzing legislation impacting Leander.

Responsibilities include coordinating analyses, monitoring legislative activity, supporting Mayor and City Council initiatives, and serving as a grants liaison. Evening meetings and events are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public or Business Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
• Four years or more of experience managing legislative projects and initiatives for a local, state, or federal entity.
• Master’s degree or higher is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, templates, and tools for the legislative program.
• Ensures alignment of legislative activities with advocacy, priorities, and directives.
• Coordinates, reviews, and synthesizes impact analyses and other inputs from outside resources.
• Monitors political developments and government relations activities related to public policy.
• Responds to inquiries from City Council and City Administration.
• Assists with Mayor and City Council program initiatives.
• Serves as grants liaison to departments and external agencies.
• Responds to the public seeking information or assistance.
• Coordinates with City departments and builds collaborative relationships.
• Attends evening/weekend meetings and city events as needed.
• Attends City Council meetings and other governing body meetings.
• Participates in conferences at regional, state, and national levels.
• Acts as a point of contact for other agencies and coordinates responses.
• Tracks and summarizes important legislation, hearings, and committee activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
