Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers, supporting the selling process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles, triples (where applicable), and straight trucks.
2. Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
3. Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies from tractors and trailers.
4. Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
5. Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
6. Recoup or repair damaged freight as needed.
7. Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
8. Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
9. Collect freight charges via cash or checks and maintain related documentation.
10. Follow dispatch instructions, communicate delays, arrivals, and equipment issues to dispatch.
11. Interact with customers to coordinate pick-up and delivery needs and seek additional business opportunities.
12. Provide internal and external customer service.
13. Proactively solicit additional business and provide leads to sales teams.
14. Perform chaining of vehicle tires if required.
15. Perform duties of road drivers or dock employees as operationally necessary.
16. Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possess a Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• Have at least one year of recent driving experience or completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Operate long combination vehicles in specified states and meet qualification standards.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without calculator.
• Basic communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to lift/carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds repeatedly.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, and perform physical activities like bending, twisting, and climbing.
• Follow instructions and complete training successfully.
• Work independently and as part of a team.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Drive in various weather conditions and on different roads.
• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials.
• Hours may vary based on operational needs.

*Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of employment. Driving without it is not permitted.

Starting Pay Rate: $30.35/hour
