Job description

Position Overview

Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers, supporting the selling process.

Essential Functions

1. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where applicable) and/or straight trucks.
2. Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
3. Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
4. Handle freight using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
5. Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and ropes.
6. Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
7. Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
8. Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
9. Collect freight charges via cash or checks as required, maintaining documentation.
10. Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
11. Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
12. Provide internal and external customer service.
13. Request additional business from customers and provide leads to sales for new opportunities.
14. May be required to perform tire chaining and duties of road driver or dock employee as operationally necessary.
15. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.

Qualifications

• Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements (automatic transmission restriction allowed).
• At least one year of recent driving experience or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Meet Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements under section 391 of FMCSA regulations.
• Ability to perform basic math and lift/carry freight up to 100 pounds.
• Basic communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Working Conditions

• Driving in all weather conditions on various roads.
• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials.
• Hours may vary based on operational needs.
• Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of employment.

Pay and Additional Details

Starting pay rate: $30.35/hour.
