Description du poste

At Jefferson Lab,you'llchampioncutting-edgescience and operational excellence while shaping the future of discovery. Join us and make your mark - where excellence meets purpose, andgreat mindstrulymatter.

The good-faith pay range for this role is $65, 600 - $90, 300 per year. Actual compensation may vary and may be above the posted range based on factors such as a candidate's skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location.

This is a two-year term position. Company-provided relocation assistance will not be offered for this position.

SURATech will not sponsor an H1B visa for this position.

What your job will be like:

The Center for Injectors and Sources (CIS) is responsible for delivering high average current beams of highly polarized electrons with excellent reliability to CEBAF users. The job involves the development of high voltage photoemission electron guns and low energy electron beam lines, improved ultrahigh and extreme high vacuum techniques, novel photoemission cathodes, sophisticated lasers producing optical beams with radio-frequency time structure, and fundamental understanding of depolarization mechanisms in various semiconductors. A particular emphasis of the job is characterizing and improving the polarized electron source to provide exceptional beam quality necessary for the upcoming MOLLER parity-violation experiment to be successful. Working alongside scientific and technical staff members in the Center for Injectors and Sources, the incumbent will participate in characterizing spin-polarized photocathodes which operate in today's very high voltage photo-guns. The incumbent will spend much of his/her time in the group's vacuum lab evaluating photocathode device performance using a micro-Mott polarimeter for the spectral characterization of photocathode quantum efficiency and spin-polarization. He/she will also spend significant time at the Upgraded Injector Test Facility and/or Gun Test Stand to commission new equipment, and for performing experiments that shed light on the limitations of photo-gun technologies. In support of the MOLLER experiment, the incumbent will evaluate materials and processing techniques for producing polarized beam in a 200 kV photo-gun; this work includes development of the radio-frequency gain-switched and frequency-doubled drive lasers used to provide high intensity polarized beams for the MOLLER experiment with small helicity-correlated beam charge and position differences. The incumbent will also assist with operations of the CEBAF photoinjector, including maintenance and commissioning activities during accelerator shutdowns.

In this job you will:
  • Perform analytic, numeric and experimental research in polarized electrons source and/or electron polarimetry
  • Perform vacuum system design, assembly and generation of ultrahigh or extreme high vacuum
  • Perform independent and collaborative scientific research
  • Communicates scientific results clearly at meetings, workshop and/or conferences
  • Communicates technical and scientific results clearly in logbooks, technical notes and/or peer-reviewed journals
Experience
  • Required: none
Education
  • Required: Ph.D. Physics, Applied Physics, or Electrical Engineering
Experience and Education Exchange

Education above the minimum may not be substituted for experience. Relevant experience may not be substituted for education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Theoretical and/or experimental expertise in an area of electron emission from materials
  • Able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing
  • Interacts well in a team environment
  • Presents work associated with specific projects at meetings
