Job summary

Watertown Regional Medical Center in Wisconsin is seeking an Registered Nurse - Surgery (RN-Surgery) to provide direct and comprehensive perioperative nursing care for surgical patients in an acute care setting. The RN-Surgery collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient safety, comfort and education throughout the perioperative process.

The role requires a BSN preferred, current RN license in Wisconsin, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, with a minimum of one year of clinical

  • Participates in transfer, discharge and referrals as needed.
  • Educates patients and families on procedures and post-operative care.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse - Surgery (RN‑Surgery) provides direct and comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients within an acute care hospital setting. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN‑Surgery assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes. This role supports surgical interventions across all age groups and ensures patient safety, comfort, and education throughout the perioperative process.

Essential Functions
  • Delivers patient‑centered nursing care based on established standards of care and the nursing process
  • Administers medications and treatments as prescribed and in accordance with policy
  • Documents all aspects of patient care clearly and accurately
  • Monitors, evaluates, and communicates patient condition to healthcare team, patient, and family
  • Coordinates and collaborates with surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care
  • Participates in patient transfer, discharge, and referrals as needed
  • Educates patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and post‑operative care
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well‑being of patients throughout the surgical experience

Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required within timeframe specified in facility policy)
Experience
  • Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience preferred
  • Previous perioperative or surgical services experience strongly preferred
