Job summary

The First Baptist Church of Sevierville is seeking a Finance Director to lead the church's financial planning, reporting, and internal controls. You will produce monthly financial reports for church leadership and external users, maintain accounting records, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
• 10+ years accounting experience; private industry required, 2+ years public accounting preferred.
• Advanced MS Office skills.
• Proven abilities in corporate finances, accounting, and payroll; nonprofit experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and leadership skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Knowledge and experience with state and federal employment law preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform the accounting operations of the Church, including directing, managing, supervising, planning and coordinating all activities of the Business Office.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and submit to staff, committees, congregation, and external users.
• Responsible for monthly closing procedures: journal entries, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist in external audits and communicate with auditors.
• Participate in annual budget preparation and monitor revenues and expenditures.
• Direct and supervise data management, A/P, A/R, and contribution processing and reporting functions.
• Direct and supervise volunteers assisting with church financial activities.
• Manage HR-related accounting, payroll, and compliance with laws.
• Prepare bi-weekly payroll and payroll tax returns.
• Oversee daily operations of the Business Office and supervise financial staff.
• Maintain accounting system modules integrated with membership system and assist staff.
• Oversee fixed asset records and vendor communications.
• Monitor cash balances, funds transfer, and restricted accounts.
• Develop and enforce internal controls and accounting policies.
• Stay current with accounting pronouncements and regulatory changes.
