Job summary

Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska, is seeking a qualified Community Health Aide Practitioner trainer within the CHAP department to educate and evaluate health aide competencies according to statewide guidelines.

The role focuses on teaching hands-on skills, developing lesson plans, and mentoring students, while ensuring safety, quality improvement, and adherence to CHAP certification standards in a rural, cross-cultural setting.

Qualifications

• Positive work history and CHP certification required.
• Two years of healthcare experience in village settings.
• Must obtain Alaska CHP certification.
• EMT I preferred.
• Clear background check.

Responsibilities

• Maintain department policies, procedures, QA programs and safety standards.
• Prepare, teach and evaluate CHAP training per statewide guidelines.
• Teach Health Aides to use the CHAM for patient encounters and clinical skills.
• Assist in demonstrations and set up of skill classes.
• Precept students in practical patient care using CHAM as guide.
• Participate in field requirements and complete trip reports.

Department Community Health Aide Program (CHAP)

Position Responsibility:

Maintains established corporate department policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Improvement programs, and safety standards

Prepare, teach and evaluate certain aspects of Community Health Aide training according to the statewide curriculum guidelines, developing lesson plans, course materials and evaluation tools. Providing training that is predominantly skill and competency based

Teach Health Aides to use the Community Health Aide Manual (CHAM), to conduct complete patient encounters in acute and preventative health care, chronic disease, follow-up, disease prevention, and patient education. Activities include providing teaching skills within the Community Health Practitioner scope of practice. (IV starts, blood draw, wound care, vital signs, administration of medications, injections, sterile precautions, Community Health Aide promotion, lab skills, physical exam skills and immunizations)

Assisting in demonstrations and facilitating set-up of additional skills classes in accordance with CHA Basic Training Curriculum

Precept students in practical patient care using the CHAM as their guide

Participates in field requirements for session III and session IV Post Session Learning Needs (PSLN). Completes trip objectives based on pre-planning and submits required trip reports and documentation to appropriate programs

Assist students and Community Health Aides with the use of the Community Health Aide Manual ( I-Cham, E-Cham)

Represents Community Health Aide Program on functional team meetings. May represent Community Health Aide Program at the state level on CHA/P related committees

Work in compliance with the Statewide Health Aide Review and Advisory Committee guidelines

Maintain personal clinical proficiency and maintains professional skills by participating in Continuing Medical Education, designated training and CHAP certification

May assist with administrative activities of the department

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:

Positive work history. Certified Community Health Aide Practitioner.

Two years (2) experience in providing health care within the village setting

Must obtain Alaska Community Health Practitioner (CHP) certification.

Current ETT. EMT I preferred.

Clear Background check.

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Email, E-Cham, I- Cham, RAVEN, and Telehealth

Good communication skills and basic computer knowledge. Management and/or supervisory experience in a rural, cross-cultural setting preferred. Bilingual Yup’ik/English, Athabascan/English or Cupik/English preferred. Experience with adult and cross-cultural education advantageous
