Job summary

The Music Academy of the West seeks a Choral Director for its Sing! program in the Santa Barbara area. You will teach after-school sessions across Carpinteria, Goleta, and Santa Barbara, lead monthly All-Choir rehearsals, and conduct concerts and events that showcase diverse repertoires.

Ideal candidates hold a music degree and demonstrate leadership, collaboration, and program development skills, with a passion for classical music and outreach to youth audiences.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a children’s choral director.
• Passion for classical music or performing arts and commitment to nonprofit arts.
• Ability to work with diverse communities and multiple stakeholders, including local schools.
• Creativity in program development.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work on a team with minimal supervision and adapt to changing priorities.
• Commitment to investing in the growth of young artists and expanding audiences.
• Spanish proficiency is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Choral Director for Sing!, teaching up to 10 hours per week after school at 6 local sites.
• Lead monthly All-Choir rehearsals at the Music Academy of the West campus.
• Conduct Sing! concerts and related events.
• Teach and perform choral repertoire promoting cultural exploration.
• Participate in repertoire selection, syllabus/program development and event planning.
• Coordinate parent volunteers, site coordinators, and collaborative pianists.
• Participate in festival and recruitment events, and attend administrative meetings.
• Fulfill other duties as assigned.
