Job summary

IDEX Corporation is seeking a hands‑on Grinder to join our manufacturing team in Cedar Falls. You will grind castings, change and dress grinding wheels, select tools, identify equipment malfunctions, and work with lifting devices as part of a busy production floor.

Responsibilities

• Grind castings per instructions.
• Change and dress grinding wheels.
• Select the proper tools for the application.
• Identify equipment malfunctions.
• Operational knowledge of air-supplied hoods.
• Identify scrap and/or defective castings and report to Supervisor/Management.
• Operate hoists and other lifting devices.
• Must exercise proper care of tools and equipment.
• Must be able to work mandatory overtime as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Grind castings per instructions
• Change and dress grinding wheels
• Select the proper tools for the application
• Identify equipment malfunctions
• Operational knowledge of air-supplied hoods
• Identify scrap and/or defective castings and report to Supervisor/Management
• Operate hoists and other lifting devices
• Occasionally required to help/assist new or transferred employees
• Must exercise proper care of tools and equipment
• Must be able to work mandatory overtime as needed
• Other Duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Experience in an industrial environment preferred

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS:

• Grinding wheels
• Pneumatic or electric hand grinders
• Pneumatic chipper
• Hand tools
• Lifting equipment and devices

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds on a regular basis and up to 70 pounds on a periodic basis.
• Stand for extended periods up to 10 hours per day.
• Required to wear respirator or air supplied hoods and other applicable PPE
• Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex and write by hand and/or type.
• Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone, radio, and in person.
• Participation in any medical examinations required by law or federal regulations.
• Visual acuity is needed for close-detail work and computer use.
• Exposed to many elements, but none continuously present to the extent of being disagreeable.
