Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Chiller Technician to support maintenance, repair, and service of commercial and industrial HVAC and central plant equipment. You will troubleshoot issues, perform preventative maintenance, and support reliable system performance with safety and customer service at the forefront.

Responsibilities include testing, start-ups, commissioning, site-wide maintenance for chillers and cooling towers, and on-call emergency coverage.

Qualifications

• 5 years journeyman level experience in commercial/industrial HVAC.
• EPA certified.
• Emergency on-call availability.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair central plant equipment, including chillers, pumps, valves, and cooling towers.
• Overhaul of centrifugal chillers is a plus.
• Test, start-ups, and commissioning of systems.
• Troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance to ensure reliability.
• Manage site-wide maintenance for chillers and central plant equipment.
• Provide technical support and on-site repair assistance.
• Attend safety meetings and follow company safety policies.

Job description

Position Summary

The Chiller Technician will support the maintenance, repair, and service of commercial and industrial HVAC and central plant equipment. This role works closely with customers and internal teams to troubleshoot issues, complete preventative maintenance, and support reliable system performance while maintaining a strong focus on safety and customer service. Southland Industries is a signatory contractor of the Local Union 250.

Position Details

• Maintain and repair central plant equipment, including chillers 100 tons and larger, motors, pumps, valves, controls, cooling towers, vane axial fans, and other auxiliary equipment.
• Overhaul of centrifugal chillers a plus.
• Familiar with all aspects of rigging.
• Support the office with recommended repairs from delivery to completion.
• Availability for emergency service calls “on-call” through normal rotation.
• Responsible for end-to-end testing, programming, start-ups, and commissioning.
• Manage site-wide maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair duties for chillers, cooling towers, and central plant equipment.
• Ensure completion of maintenance within the scheduled month and allocated time.
• Maintaining positive relationships with customers, vendors, and co-workers
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of all on-site equipment.
• Attend monthly safety meetings.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
• Work directly with the Service Supervisor on new and existing customer opportunities or issues.

Qualifications

• 5 years of work experience at the journeyman level and technical schooling.
• Commercial/Industrial air conditioning experience required.
• Knowledge of Chiller, HVAC, and Central Plants.
• HVAC large tonnage field knowledge is required.
• Must be available for emergency service calls “on call” through normal rotation.
• EPA certified.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Pay

Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For California this ranges from $28.00/hour – $65.00/hour plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
