Job summary

UAB is seeking a Central Plant Repairer to read blueprints and specifications, assist in maintenance and installation across chiller, refrigeration, and HVAC systems on campus. The role supports other crafts and ensures safe, reliable operation of critical plant equipment.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, lubrication, leak testing, and equipment inspection, with emphasis on safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 3 years of relevant experience in HVAC or related field.
• Experience interpreting blueprints, drawings, and equipment specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine operations and preventive maintenance on chiller and refrigeration units and related equipment.
• Assist other trades with installations, repairs, and modifications on HVAC systems.
• Inspect and test motor windings, amperage, and gear oil levels; monitor equipment performance.
• Lubricate motors, compressors, pumps, and cooling towers; inspect for leaks and wear.
• Prepare equipment for annual inspections and ensure safe operation.
