Job summary

Software Placement Group (SPG) is seeking a Technical Designer for a childrenswear apparel brand in New York, to manage product development from initial fittings through production approval.

You will collaborate with overseas factories, lead live fittings, prepare technical packs and graded specs, and ensure quality, fit, and construction across the full lifecycle.

Hybrid schedule with on-site expectations and Fridays work-from-home flexibility.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Technical Designer, ideally within childrenswear.
• Ability to conduct live fittings and translate fit notes into actionable corrections.
• Strong understanding of garment construction, patterns, and fit.
• Experience communicating with overseas offices, agents, and vendors.
• Strong documentation and organizational skills.
• Office-based with some Fridays work-from-home flexibility.

Responsibilities

Location: New York, NY | Schedule: Full-time, primarily on-site with work-from-home flexibility on Fridays

Overview

A childrenswear apparel company is seeking a Technical Designer to manage the product development process from initial fitting through production approval. This role is central to ensuring garments meet quality, fit, and construction standards across the full product lifecycle.

What you'll do

• Manage the product lifecycle from pre-fitting through production fit approval
• Conduct fittings with live fit models by measuring garments, taking detailed fitting notes, editing comments, documenting fit corrections, and communicating updates to overseas teams and factories
• Partner with the Director of Technical Design to create comprehensive initial technical packages and final full graded specifications
• Work under the guidance of the Director of Technical Design to execute necessary fit corrections, using diagrams and garment patterns effectively to achieve the desired fit, silhouette, and style
• Facilitate communication with overseas offices and vendors to identify and resolve garment construction and production issuesMeet with the Production team weekly to review sample approval status and support compliance with the Time and Action Calendar
• Interact regularly with agents, overseas offices, and vendors to help problem‑solve garment engineering issues throughout the product lifecycle
• Maintain accurate and detailed technical documentation throughout the development and production process
