Job summary

New McKendree United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time Family Ministry Assistant to support the Children’s and Youth Ministries. The role involves preparing weekly lessons, organizing classrooms and resources, and assisting with communications and events to create meaningful faith formation experiences for children, youth, and families.

Qualifications

• Ability to manage multiple tasks, follow established plans, and meet deadlines.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with email, social media, common office applications, and Canva.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate with staff and volunteers.
• Dependable, flexible, positive, and service-oriented attitude.
• Interest in supporting the faith formation of children, youth, and families.

Responsibilities

• Prepare weekly lesson materials, supplies, and activities according to curriculum plans.
• Ensure teachers and volunteers have the resources needed to lead engaging, age-appropriate, faith-centered lessons.
• Organize, monitor, and maintain ministry resources, supply closets, curriculum materials, and activity supplies.
• Stage classrooms before weekly programs, ensuring spaces are clean, organized, and ready for use.
• Update and maintain bulletin boards
• Assist with preparing, setting up, implementing, and cleaning up special events and seasonal programs.
• Assist with or lead selected activities for children, youth, and family, as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Family Ministry Department.
• Successfully complete a criminal background check.
• Complete Safe Gatherings certification.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow church policies and procedures, including child protection and safety requirements.
• May assist with communications, including preparing family updates, gathering information, and creating social media content
