Job summary

Barrington United Methodist Church is seeking a Director of Children and Youth Ministries. This part-time, exempt role reports to the Sr. Pastor and requires about 20-25 hours per week, including Sundays and Christian holidays, with some evenings and weekends.

The director will lead cradle-to-college programming, develop curriculum, supervise staff and volunteers, manage budgets, and ensure Safe Sanctuary standards are met while nurturing faith formation across ages.

Qualifications

• Education experience in children/youth ministry preferred.
• Able to pass a thorough background check.
• Safe Sanctuaries certification within 3 months of employment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Canva.
• Self-motivated, creative, energetic with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to attract and lead volunteers.
• Experience planning and leading short-term mission trips strongly desired.
• Must be Christian with growing faith in Jesus Christ.
• Willing to gain education in Methodist Theology from the United Methodist Church.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee children and youth ministries aligned with church mission.
• Prepare and manage an annual budget and provide receipts for expenditures.
• Supervise the Children's Ministry Assistant and Family Event Coordinators.
• Attend staff and leadership meetings as needed.
• Lead cradle-to-college programming including Sundays, events, and lessons.
• Create age-appropriate curriculum aligned with United Methodist theology.
• Maintain Safe Gatherings training and background checks for staff/volunteers.
• Recruit, train, and engage volunteers to serve across ministries.
• Plan and run Vacation Bible School and family events.
