Job summary

Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) seeks a Part-Time Activity Coordinator at Lucy's Hearth in Middletown, RI to plan and implement age-appropriate activities for children, adolescents, and families living in the shelter, fostering safe, welcoming, and supportive environments.

The role collaborates with staff and volunteers to provide recreational, educational, and social-emotional programming, with occasional evenings and weekends required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Experience working with children and families; planning age-appropriate activities preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities for children, adolescents, and families living at Lucy's Hearth.
• Build positive relationships in a safe, welcoming, and supportive shelter environment.
• Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to provide opportunities meeting needs of children and families.
• Safely supervise children during indoor/outdoor activities and ensure safety policies are followed.

Education

Bachelor's degree in social work, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Services, Recreation, or related field

Build positive, trusting relationships with children and families while creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment throughout their shelter experience. Provide a variety of recreational, educational, creative, social-emotional, and community-based activities that encourage healthy development, connection, learning, and positive family experiences. Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to identify and provide opportunities that meet the interests and needs of children and families. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social work, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Services, Recreation, or related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience working with children and families and planning age-appropriate activities preferred. Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and relationship-building skills. Knowledge of and sensitivity to diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and follow agency policies and safety requirements. Flexible schedule required, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and adjusted hours for planned activities, events, outings, or guests. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, current insurance, registration, inspection, and acceptable driving record required. Ability to safely supervise children of varying ages and developmental levels. Successful completion of required background checks and agency screening. Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to: Travel to community locations and other FSRI sites as needed, including navigating walkways, stairs, and elevators.
