YWCA York seeks a dedicated childcare teacher to maintain developmentally appropriate standards in line with policy, Keystone Stars, and NAEYC criteria. The role includes supervising children, documenting development, and fostering an anti-bias, inclusive classroom.

The position emphasizes collaboration with families, adherence to safety and health guidelines, and ongoing professional development, including mandated reporting and CPR/First Aid certification as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required, plus 2,500 hours of experience with children.
  • College credit hours in early childhood education may be added qualifications, plus 2,500 hours with children.
  • YWCA York adheres to NAEYC and Keystone Stars standards; CDA programs and related education are supported when available.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children by sight and sound and keep count and accountability at all times.
  • Engage children in respectful, meaningful conversations and experiences.
  • Assess and document children's development and tailor activities to individual needs and backgrounds.
  • Encourage independence and self-help activities; promote cleanliness and community participation.
  • Complete mandated reporter training; report suspected abuse or neglect immediately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of children's information and backgrounds.
  • Promote anti-bias practices and work with families to support children’s values.
  • Develop relationships with families and discuss child development through regular communications.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in training, including health, safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Serve meals and monitor food safety per CACFP regulations.
  • Perform general housekeeping and report safety concerns to the Director.
