Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Childcare Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: Daycare Director

Status: ❒ Exempt ❒ Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Childcare Specialist provides support and direction for activities within a specific program area, such as Education, Special Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Enforce development of appropriate daycare-related policies.
  2. Create engaging and enriching lesson plans for age-appropriate programming.
  3. Transport club members in club vehicles during the school year and summer camp.
  4. Maintain confidentiality of all members participating in club programming.
  5. Enforce policies set by the state licensing agency.
  6. Assist with other duties as requested by the Daycare Director.
  7. Pass all background checks required by the Department of Education.
  8. Provide guidance and act as a role model/mentor to ensure conduct, safety, and development of all members.
  9. Help maintain facilities and equipment to ensure a productive and clean work environment, reporting major issues to the supervisor.
  10. Maintain close professional contact with staff members, supervisor, and volunteers to communicate about club operations and members' needs.
  11. Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure member safety and quality of programs and branch appearance.
  12. Supervise club members to ensure continuous sight, sound, and supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Childcare Specialist shall be at least 18 years old, have completed a high school program or equivalent, and meet one of the following:

  1. Hold an endorsement or bachelor's degree in a child-related field such as elementary education, nursing, or recreation from a college or university.
  2. Have three months of programmatic experience and meet one of the following education backgrounds:
  3. Complete a one-year early childhood certificate from a college or university with at least 30 semester hours.
  4. Possess a child development credential recognized by § 22.1-289.048 of the Virginia Code.
  5. Hold a teaching diploma from an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization.
  6. Have six months of supervised programmatic experience.

Additional Skills:

  • Excellent organizational, communication, interviewing, and listening skills.
  • Group leadership skills, including understanding of group dynamics.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred.
  • Ability to effectively work with diverse groups of parents and children.
