A leading educational institution is seeking a Director for the Horizons Child Development Center. This role involves overseeing the center's operations, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Director will foster professional development among staff and communicate with parents about children's progress. Strong knowledge of early childhood development and effective communication skills are essential for success in this role.
This position serves as the Director of the Horizons Child Development Center. This position will be responsible for the administrative duties of the center, supervising child care staff, and ensuring that the facility complies with all local, state, and federal regulations governing child care, including the physical environment and staff requirements.
The center has the capacity to serve up to 40 children. The Director will supervise 11 direct reports, including the assistant director and 10 child care teachers, and will work with these employees to foster their professional development.
Key knowledge areas include childcare licensure requirements, ITERS and ECERS (child care environment rating scales), safety standards, child care food program requirements, and voucher requirements. Familiarity with Early Head Start Program standards and implementation is essential. The Director must effectively communicate with parents, staff, and management, and manage staff with minimal supervision.
The role requires the ability to meet the basic physical care needs of children appropriately, demonstrate knowledge of early childhood development to support high-risk children, and develop and monitor individualized instructional plans for each child, reporting progress to the child care team.
The Director will participate in weekly interdisciplinary child team meetings to report on developmental progress, problem-solve, and develop care plans. Communication with on-site therapists regarding children's progress and implementing their recommendations is vital. The Director must also communicate effectively with parents about their children's progress and needs, as well as coordinate with staff members, including psychological therapists, case managers, and developmental therapists (PT/OT/Speech & Language).
The role involves monitoring children for developmental deficiencies, making recommendations for developmental needs, and working with parents to understand and address therapists' recommendations at home.
