Job summary

Butler YMCA in Butler, PA is hiring a Childcare Assistant to support education, supervision, and care in the Early Learning Center. You will help with curriculum execution, planning, and family engagement under a nonprofit mission to strengthen the community.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 2,500 hours with children, and required clearances. CPR/First Aid within 60 days is mandatory; various benefits and 40-hour weeks are offered.

Qualifications

  • State requires all prospective employees to submit the following: FBI Clearance, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Clearance, NSOR, Health Assessment with TB screening.
  • Verification of 2,500 hours working with children; minimum age 18; High School diploma or equivalent with optional college credits and experience.
  • CPR/Pediatric First Aid/AED certification within 60 days of employment; PQAS certified trainer; preferred prior childcare/teaching experience.
  • Strong communication, leadership, empathy, organization and conflict resolution skills; ability to plan activities for children.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing the curriculum within established guidelines.
  • Assist with daily lesson and activity plans.
  • Maintain consistent and open verbal and written communication with parents throughout the year.
  • Supervise the children, classroom and all activities.
  • Conduct ongoing, systematic child observations and evaluations.
  • Maintain required program records.
  • Maintain program areas and adhere to standards of equipment, storage, safety and cleanliness.
  • Attend and participate in center-wide activities, staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Maintain ongoing DHS qualifications required for working in Child Care.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including medical and disciplinary procedures and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent; 2 years experience with children
High School diploma or equivalent; 15 college credit hours in early childhood education/related field; 1 year experience with children
2,500 hours working with children
FBI Clearance, PA Child Abuse History, PA State Police, NSOR
CPR/Pediatric First Aid/AED Certification within 60 days
Minimum age 18
Health Assessment with TB screening
DHS/NSOR clearances required

The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for assisting in the education, supervision and care of children, curriculum planning, and family engagement in the YMCA Early Learning Center Program. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • State requires all prospective employees to submit the following:

  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  • PA State Police Clearance
  • National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) Certificate
  • Health Assessment with TB screening
  • Verification of 2,500 hours working with children.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience with children. OR
  • High School diploma or equivalent, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children.
  • CPR/Pediatric First Aid/AED Certification required within 60 days of employment by PQAS certified trainer; required.
  • Previous experience in childcare, teaching, or other related fields; preferred.
  • Work experience related to the care and development of children; preferred.
  • Exceptional Communication, Leadership, Empathy, Organizational, Conflict Resolution Skills; preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement age/developmentally appropriate program activities; preferred.
  • Ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.
