Job summary

Socket.dev seeks a Coordinator for its YMCA Early Learning Center Program. You will assist in education and supervision of staff, care of children, curriculum implementation, and active family engagement to foster achievement and belonging in the youth program.

You will support the Director, help interview staff, create schedules, mentor staff, aid teachers with lesson plans, track student progress, and maintain records while upholding YMCA policies and safety standards in a diverse, supportive

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree with 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or human services and 3 years’ experience with children.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification required within 60 days by PQAS trainer.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director during the day.
  • Assist the Director with interviewing for childcare staff.
  • Create the staff schedule and fill in for call-offs/vacations.
  • Mentor new staff and volunteers; model core values.
  • Support Teachers with classroom activities.
  • Assist with lesson plans and problems teachers face.
  • Track students’ academic progress for signs of progress.
  • Uphold the Discipline Policy and incident tracking.
  • Implement curriculum within guidelines and provide program support.
  • Develop schedules and routines for activity, rest, and play.
  • Create a fun and safe learning environment.
  • Maintain program records and adhere to standards for equipment, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Deliver positive interactions with parents and staff; build relationships.
  • Attend center activities, meetings, and trainings.
  • Substitute in classrooms to maintain ratios.
  • Manage Procare daily approvals.
  • Maintain ongoing DHS qualifications for childcare.
  • Follow YMCA policies, including medical, disciplinary, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other duties; including Before & After School Coordination and Play Place Coordination.

The Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in the education and supervision of staff, care of children, curriculum implementation, and family engagement in the YMCA Early Learning Center Program. Provides direction for the children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience for children and parents that focus on building achievement and belonging in youth and developing relationships among youth and within families. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • State requires all prospective employees to submit the following:
    1. FBI Clearance (Department of Human Services),
    2. PA Child Abuse History Clearance,
    3. PA State Police Clearance,
    4. National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) Certificate,
    5. Health Assessment with TB screening,
    6. Verification of 2,500 hours working with children.
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 years of experience with children.
  • CPR/Pediatric First Aid/AED Certification required within 60 days of employment by PQAS certified trainer; required.
  • Previous experience in childcare, teaching, or other related fields; required.
  • Work experience related to the care and development of children; required.
  • Exceptional Communication, Leadership, Empathy, Organizational, Conflict Resolution Skills; required.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement age/developmentally appropriate program activities; preferred.
  • Ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Supports the Director as needed during the day.
  2. Assist the Director with interviewing for all childcare staff.
  3. Responsible for creating the staff schedule and filling in for call-offs/vacations.
  4. Mentor new staff and volunteers including new staff orientation process. Act as a role model for the staff at all times by promoting the Core Values.
  5. Support the Teachers with all classroom activities.
  6. Assisting Teachers in the creation of lesson plans or in solving problems the Teacher is struggling to find a solution for.
  7. Assist the Teachers with tracking the academic performance of students for signs of progress.
  8. Uphold the Discipline Policy for students and incident tracking.
  9. Implement the curriculum within the established guidelines, provides support to the programs.
  10. Develop schedules and routines to ensure adequate physical activity, rest, and playtime.
  11. Create a fun and safe learning environment.
  12. Maintain required program records.
  13. Support program areas and adhere to program standards in regards to equipment, storage, safety and cleanliness.
  14. Delivers positive interactions with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills.
  15. Attend and assist in center wide activities, staff meetings and trainings.
  16. Substitute in classrooms in order to maintain ratios where needed.
  17. Manage Procare daily approvals.
  18. Maintain ongoing DHS qualifications required for working in Childcare.
  19. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
