Job summary

Livingston HealthCare in Livingston, MT is seeking a qualified childbirth educator to deliver evidence-based classes for obstetric patients. You will teach and update curriculum, assess learning needs, and create a supportive environment for expectant families.

Responsibilities include collaborating with the FBC Supervisor and Women’s Health team, coordinating class schedules, and maintaining organized records while promoting healthy pregnancy and infant care practices.

Qualifications

• College degree and certification as a childbirth educator (ie. ICCE) and/or Labor and Delivery RN with at least 1 year clinical experience.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach childbirth classes using current curriculum and update as needed.
• Establish and maintain in-depth knowledge of concepts related to childbirth, baby care and postpartum care for women.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide educational opportunities for patients and staff.
• Identify learning needs of clients and adapt teaching strategies to meet class participants' needs.
• Prepare and organize class materials and facilitate multiple classes.

The CE promotes and maintains the childbirth education and prenatal classes available to obstetric patients. The CE will provide direct client instructions to increase awareness and knowledge of evidenced based childbirth and baby care related topics. The CE is responsible for assessing, developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for local families. The CE will maintain competency, continuing education, and develop a team of childbirth educators. This position requires collaboration between the FBC Supervisor and Women’s Health team to establish goals and priorities in accordance with patient care needs and organizational objectives.

• Current Schedule: Evenings and Saturdays

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops teaching skills and participates in the planning, implementation, compilation of education and resources for clients and scheduling the education classes.
• Supports staff engagement.
• Possesses comprehensive knowledge of reproductive health, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, breastfeeding, infant development, and infant care.
• Researches, synthesizes, and maintains evidence-based curriculum.
• Qualified individuals must have the ability with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the following duties:
• Teach childbirth classes using current curriculum and update as needed
• Establish and maintain an in depth knowledge of concepts related to childbirth, baby care and postpartum care for women.
• Participate as an active team member who works closely with peers to enhance childbirth education.
• Identify learning needs of clients and adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of class participants.
• Act as a role model for healthy lifestyle behaviors - exercise, proper nutrition, screenings, etc
• Create a comfortable and safe environment for expectant patients to approach birth with confidence
• Quickly engage and maintain class participants interest.
• Complete paperwork promptly and possess ability to stay organized while facilitating multiple classes.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Continually assesses the birth center environment to determine educational needs of patients and FBC staff.
• Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to provide insightful, innovative educational opportunities.
• Manage all aspects of educational classes including fiscal responsibility.
• Facilitate learning experiences in the birth center setting.
• Pursue professional growth and participate in applicable professional organizations.
• Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department or organization.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required):

• College degree and certification as a childbirth educator (ie. ICCE) and/or
• Labor and Delivery RN with at least 1 year clinical experience
• Demonstrated leadership abilities
• Possess good oral and written communication skills

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current unrestricted RN license in Montana
• Experience presenting educational programs
• Certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, STABLE, Fetal Monitoring and Childbirth education; Spinning Babies course completion
• Labor and Delivery or Obstetric clinical experience
