Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is seeking a Child Welfare Specialist to deliver full casework services ensuring child safety and wellbeing. The role requires coordination with families, schools, and healthcare providers, with a focus on preventing abuse and supporting parenting standards.

The position emphasizes licensed/certified eligibility, CERAPKEEP/PMTO training, and strong communication skills. Competitive benefits are provided with a 60k–67k salary range.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related human services field.
• Minimum of 1 year of related experience.
• State licensing/certification as required by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
• CWEL or ability to obtain required.
• CERAP certification required.
• Training in KEEP and/or GenerationsPMTO or willingness to participate in training.
• Successful completion of CCS Bootcamp.
• Successful completion of Client-Centered Service Planning and Aftercare Planning Training.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate families and communicate clearly.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software.
• Background check clearance and valid IL driver’s license with transportation.

Responsibilities

• Submit reports, documentation and billing accurately and timely.
• Participate in supervisory process for guidance, direction, support and approval of decision making; present cases for staffing.
• Coordinate with other service providers, schools and healthcare facilities to promote the child(ren)’s well-being.
• Assess family service needs.
• Link to community resources to remediate problems and prevent abuse and verify participation.
• Ensure child safety and well-being during service delivery.
• Provide strength-based case management to resolve challenges contributing to risk to children.
• Advocacy with medical or governmental institutions.
