Job summary

State of Louisiana's Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) seeks candidates for Child Welfare Specialist Trainee/1/2/3 roles. Positions are placed across parishes based on availability and candidate preferences.

Responsibilities include investigating reports of child abuse/neglect, assisting with backlog cases, documenting case details for court proceedings, and referring families to services. Requires HS diploma or better and a driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in child welfare; OR six years of full-time work experience; OR a bachelor's degree.
• Experience substitution: every 30 semester hours equals one year of experience; up to 120 semester hours substitute for four years.
• Necessary special requirement: high school diploma or equivalent and valid driver's license with access to a personal vehicle.
• Background checks: SCR, drug test, criminal history, and sex offender registry checks are required.
• Must not have conviction listed in R.S. 15.587.1 (c).

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations into allegations of child abuse and/or neglect.
• Support first-shift staff by assisting with backlog cases.
• Gather and document detailed case information and records for court proceedings and provide testimony in court.
• Make timely referrals to family services, foster care programs, and other community resources.
