Job summary

The Department of Social Services – Children’s Division seeks a seasoned supervisor to oversee the Critical Investigations Unit and lead front-line investigators handling child fatalities, near-fatalities, and emergency investigations.

This role partners with law enforcement and public officials, provides staff training, reviews case records, and ensures services meet agency guidelines while supporting families and at-risk children.

Qualifications

• Nine or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency delivering protective services, including casework/case management in investigations of abuse or neglect, foster care/adoptions, family-centered services, treatment/rehabilitation, or in-home family crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

• Supervises front-line investigators assigned to the Critical Investigations Unit handling child fatalities and emergency investigations.
• Assists in training staff on Division policies, procedures, standards, and goals; participates in management planning.
• Reviews case records to ensure compliance with agency guidelines and service delivery.
• Conducts detailed case studies and prepares evaluations; recommends treatment and placement plans.
• Interacts with law enforcement, juvenile officers, and community organizations on family/child issues.
• Attends court hearings and related meetings; reports on staff standards and progress.
• Directs work of staff, participates in hiring, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations.
• Ensures quality and quantity of services delivered to families and children.
