Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Allegheny County Child Welfare Services is seeking a County Caseworker 1 to provide protective and supportive services to children and families. You will conduct case coordination from referral to closure, offer counseling, and participate in crisis response and court proceedings as needed.

The role requires travel across Allegheny County, full-time hours, and a commitment to community safety and collaboration with a dedicated team.

Qualifications

• Requires two years of experience as County Social Services Aide 3 plus two years of college coursework with 12 credits in related social sciences
• A bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or related social sciences
• Equivalent combination of experience and training with 12 credits and one year of paraprofessional case management experience
• Applicants are considered to have met educational requirements within two months of graduating

Responsibilities

• Provide protective and supportive services for abused or neglected children and their families
• Offer guidance and counseling to children, families, foster and adoptive parents
• Coordinate cases from referral through completion of agency involvement
• Participate in crisis intervention and planning for family safety
• Present case facts and provide testimony in Children Court when required
• Complete required classroom and field training under supervision during probation

Education

Bachelor's degree with 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences

Any equivalent combination of experience and training including 12 college credits and one year of paraprofessional case management experience
