Job summary

YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking a Child Watch Staff member for daytime and weekend shifts at the East Boston YMCA. You will care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years, watching and engaging them while parents participate in Healthy Living activities at the YMCA.

This part-time role emphasizes safety, friendly interaction, and positive role modeling. Prior child care experience and CPR/First Aid certification are preferred; shifts are up to 5 hours long.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children in a babysitting, child care or school setting.
• Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children alike.

Responsibilities

• Keeps safety of children as first priority. Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well-being with the children and parents.
• Never leave the children unattended.
• Provide a fun, safe, and stimulating atmosphere for the children.
• Develop and foster a “family club” atmosphere by participating with members in an enthusiastic, courteous, and friendly manner.
• By personal example, helps to interpret the quality of the YMCA values to children, staff, and parents. Must be a positive role model.
• Learn all emergency procedures and familiarize yourself with the first aid equipment.
• Keep room clean of food and small objects which may be deemed a choking hazard.
• Inspect room each morning for possible hazards, clean and vacuum room prior to closing each day.
• Attend all staff meetings.
• Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
