Job description

Apply for the Child Watch Associate role at Mahaska County YMCA. We are hiring for morning (8‑noon, M‑F) and afternoon/evening (4‑8 pm, M‑TH) shifts.

Responsibilities

• Directly participate with and ensure the safety and care of children.
• Serve as a role model and live the YMCA mission, vision, and values.
• Participate with children in all activities and implement character development activities.
• Maintain assigned area to ensure safe and sanitary conditions, including disinfection of toys and furniture.
• Notify supervisor if equipment, toys, or furniture is damaged.
• Adhere to Child Watch best practices and appropriate discipline techniques.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Communicate effectively with parents.
• Ability to sit, stand, kneel, walk frequently, stoop, crouch, or crawl as necessary to care for young children.
• Previous experience working with children ages 6 weeks to 6 years preferred.

Work Environment

The noise level varies from quiet to moderate depending on the number of participants. This position works a varied week as required to manage operations.
