Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is hiring a full-time Therapeutic Foster Care Child Therapist to provide comprehensive, Medicaid-compliant therapeutic services to children in the Treatment Foster Care Program using a trauma-informed approach.

The role requires a Master’s degree in social work or related field, LCSW or eligibility, TFCO/TF-CBT training, and strong documentation and collaboration with the TFC team and foster families.

  • LCSW credential or eligibility for clinical license.
  • TFCO training or willingness to participate after hire.
  • TF-CBT certification or willingness to participate.
  • Experience documenting in an EHR system and Medicaid billing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full range of therapeutic services to children in the Treatment Foster Care Program.
  • Develop Medicaid-compliant treatment plans with the TFC team.
  • Deliver direct counseling and evidence-based interventions to children and families.
  • Complete reports and Medicaid billing accurately and timely.
  • Maintain professional conduct and collaborative relationships with foster families and partners.

LSSI is hiring a full-time Therapeutic Foster Care Child Therapist. The schedule varies. Responsible for providing the full range of therapeutic services to children in the Treatment Foster Care Program in accordance with the integrated assessment, permanency plan, and assessed therapeutic needs of the child as well as provide services within the context of an evidence-based model of treatment foster care for children and their families, using a trauma-informed approach.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for providing the full range of therapeutic services to children in the Treatment Foster Care Program in accordance with the integrated assessment, permanency plan, and assessed therapeutic needs of the child as well as provide services in the context of an evidence-based model of treatment foster care for children and their families, using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Provide comprehensive, Medicaid compliant, assessment of client’s therapeutic needs.
  • Develop individualized, Medicaid compliant, treatment plan, in conjunction with TFC Team, child and family. Ensuring to take into consideration the reasons the child/family are involved in the child welfare system, past and current safety and risk concerns, and the permanency/step-down service plan for the child/family and allows al members of the team to submit Medicaid billing.
  • Provide direct counseling and therapeutic services to children in the Treatment Foster Care Program as indicated by the assessment and treatment plan.
  • Therapeutic interventions will include supportive therapy for the child, behavioral management interventions with the child, prosocial skill development, school-based interventions/support, and applying principles from social learning theory, development psychology, trauma informed care.
  • Complete and submit all required reports, documentation and Medicaid billing accurately and timely as required by the agency and funding sources. Includes the completion of written session notes and reports detailing client’s progress as required by applicable policies/procedures and/or when required by juvenile court.
  • Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest and fair manner.
Position Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in social work or other related field required.
  • Background check clearance, both criminal and CANTS required.
  • Holds the licensed clinical social work (LCSW) credential or its equivalent or is eligible for a clinical license and working toward completion.
  • IM+ CANTS certified or available to participate in training and certification.
  • Training in Treatment Foster Care of Oregon (TFCO) model or available to participate in TCO training after hired.
  • Certified in trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy (TF-CTB) or available to participate in TF CTB training and certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing, including completing documentation in organization’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Experience providing services using a team approach; demonstrated ability to motivate children, their families, and foster parents to participate in a highly detailed treatment model preferred.
  • Knowledge of DSM-V and its applications.
  • Excellent organization, presentation and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.
  • Valid drivers license, in good standing for the state of residency required.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage, bodily injury and property damage required.
