Child Support Specialist 1 - BCSE - Bureau for Child Support Enforcement

Position Overview

This entry-level Caseworker position is located in Braxton, Cabell, Hancock, Kanawha, and Raleigh counties. It involves performing child support enforcement work under supervision, with training provided to develop knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to child support.

Responsibilities include case processing, location, case development, notifying non-custodial parents, managing caseloads, legal research, and customer service inquiries. The role requires familiarity with agency policies, state and federal laws, and the ability to locate parents and assets, calculate support formulas, and prepare case files.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or
  • Successful completion of a paralegal or legal secretarial training program, or
  • Full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in a legal setting, debt collection, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing, or
  • Experience as an Economic Service Worker or Family Support Specialist, or
  • Any combination of the above, substituting experience for training at a rate of 1 year per 30 semester hours.

Other requirements include a valid driver’s license and vehicle availability.

Additional Information

Probationary period is 12 months. Experience in clerical, customer service, corrections, or as a Child Support Specialist Trainee may substitute for training or experience. Benefits are available; click HERE for details.
