Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED with 4 years of law enforcement experience or active military service.
• AA degree or 60+ college credits with 2 years professional work experience or 2 years law enforcement experience.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (if applicable).
• Must obtain Florida CPS Investigator Certification within 12 months after provisional certification.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations of abuse, neglect, abandonment and/or special conditions for children.
• Collect information via observations and interviews with children, parents, relatives, and neighbors.
• Assess danger threats and caregiver protective capacities to determine safety.
• Arrange emergency placement when a child cannot remain safely at home.
• Notify state attorney, law enforcement and child protection teams.
• Provide families with service linkages to agency and community resources.
• Conduct initial/ongoing child present and impending danger assessments.
• Report indications of abuse/neglect/abandonment to the Florida Abuse Hotline.
