Job summary

Florida Department of Children and Families seeks a diligent Child Protective Investigator to conduct investigations of abuse, neglect, and special conditions affecting children. You will gather information through interviews with families and neighbors and assess safety and risk to determine appropriate protections.

The role requires quick decision-making, strong integrity, and the ability to work in high-pressure environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or higher with relevant experience.
• Degree requirements include associate or bachelor’s degree; unofficial transcripts may be provided.
• Must obtain Florida Child Protective Investigator Certification within 12 months after provisional certification.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations of abuse, neglect, abandonment and/or special conditions for children.
• Collect information through observation and interviews with children, parents, relatives, and neighbors.
• Assess danger threats, child vulnerabilities and caregiver protective capacities to determine safety.
• Arrange emergency placement for children unable to remain safely in their home.
• Notify state attorney, law enforcement and child protection teams.
• Provide families with service linkages to agency and community resources.
• Conduct initial/ongoing child present and impending danger assessments.
• Report indications of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment to the Florida Abuse Hotline.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Associate degree or 60+ credit hours

Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
