The State of Montana, Department of Justice, invites applications for a Child Protection Attorney based in Helena. The attorney will manage civil cases involving child abuse and neglect, performing legal research, drafting documents, and presenting testimony in district court.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor Degree.
• At least two years of specialized law and litigation experience.
• Admission to and maintenance of licensure from the State Bar of Montana.
• If licensed in another state, must be able to become licensed to practice law in Montana within a reasonable time.
• Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

• Independently handle all phases of simple and complex civil cases in district court.
• Perform factual assessment, legal research, and writing.
• Prepare legal documents and present oral testimony and argument.
• Provide training to county attorneys, DHHS staff, and other DN stakeholders.
