Position: Child Life Specialist (20 hours/week)

Responsibilities
  • Support patients and families in our high acuity Medical and Surgical Intensive Care (MSICU) units through therapeutic activities.
  • Participate in activities that support patients facing trauma, grief, complicated diagnoses, and highly acute medical situations.
  • Facilitate coping, preparation, and education related to the hospital experience as part of a team of Child Life Specialists.
  • Engage in therapeutic activities and programs to meet psychosocial and developmental needs and assist patients in adjusting to healthcare experiences.
  • Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Delegate work assignments to volunteers and participate in clinical training of student interns.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
  • Completion of a 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
  • Problem-solving skills utilizing child development theory, professional child life principles, and experienced-based knowledge.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, including conflict resolution, to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire.
