Qualifications

Child Life Specialist

The Child Life Specialist will be responsible for supporting patients and families in our high acuity Medical and Surgical Intensive Care (MSICU) units. We are seeking an experienced CCLS to participate in therapeutic activities that support patients and their families facing trauma, grief, complicated diagnoses, and highly acute medical situations. Working with a team of other Child Life Specialists, the team will facilitate coping, preparation, and education related to the hospital experience.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to healthcare experiences.
  2. Serving as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participating in clinical training of student interns.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
  2. 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
  3. Skills in resolving problems using child development theory, professional child life principles, and experienced-based knowledge.
  4. Well-developed writing skills and excellent communication skills, including conflict resolution, to work effectively as a team member.
  5. Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire.
