Job summary

Norton Healthcare seeks a Child Life Therapist/Facility Dog Handler to assess and address the psychosocial needs of patients and families across inpatient and outpatient settings. The role uses a facility dog to support social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of children during hospital stays.

The ideal candidate will have a 600-hour Child Life internship, be willing to pursue facility dog handler training, hold a relevant Bachelor's degree, and pursue CCLS certification within 12

Qualifications

• Completion of a 600 hour Child Life internship.
• Willingness to complete facility dog handler training through a service dog organization.
• Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Education or other health-related field.
• Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential or must be eligible to sit for exam; must obtain within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the psychosocial needs of patients and families.
• Utilize the facility dog to provide psychosocial support and assist in growth and development goals.
• Advocate for patients and families and provide age-appropriate medical teaching and distraction using the facility dog.
