Job Overview

Promotes optimal development and prevents psychological trauma in hospitalized children and adolescents by providing child life programming for specified populations within the Children's Hospital.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in child life, psychology, child development, education or related field.
• Child Life Internship required.
• Child Life Certification required within one year of employment and maintained throughout employment.

Preferred

• Child Life Certification preferred upon hiring.

Essential Functions

• Develops and executes individual treatment plans based on psychosocial assessments.
• Provides opportunities for play and activities that promote healing and understanding.
• Uses therapeutic play techniques for diagnosis and treatment.
• Interprets child's perception of diagnosis and treatment through play and communication.
• Prepares children and families for procedures using developmentally appropriate methods.
• Utilizes stress reduction techniques to aid coping.
• Provides emotional support to patients and families during stress points.
