Job summary

The State of Nebraska, Health & Human Services - Agency 25, offers a Child and Family Services Internship for Summer 2027 across multiple DHHS offices statewide. Interns will shadow Child and Family Service Specialists to gain hands-on experience serving vulnerable children and their families.

Minimum qualifications include enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; preferred coursework spans social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, or related fields.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution).
• Recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution).
• Preferred coursework in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human services, mental healthcare, criminal justice, education, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Interns will shadow CFSS specialists to gain hands-on experience.
• Advocate for families and respect each child’s family and culture.
• Implement family-centered practice principles in case management.
• Promote normalcy in the lives of children in care.
• Adhere to Structured Decision Making and use evidence-based practices.
• Identify referrals and write clear, descriptive reports for legal entities and the court.
