Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach's Department of Human Services seeks a social work professional to provide case management for children and families connected to CPS investigations or family assessments. The role operates under supervision and offers a $3,000 hiring bonus.

Responsibilities include coordinating with families, referring to FAPT, documenting interactions in digital systems, and appearing in court as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor degree in a human services field or equivalent with 2 years related experience.
• Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
• Work hours may extend beyond normal schedule for department needs or emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide case management for families in CPS investigations or family assessments.
• Facilitate team meetings to build rapport with children and families.
• Refer clients to Family Assessment & Planning Teams.
• Engage with families to address specific needs.
• Document client contacts in digital case management tools.
• Consult with supervisors and city attorneys on safety and permanency.
• Assess child safety and risk using structured tools and interviews.
• Respond to CPS allegations after hours on rotating basis.
• Prepare action plans with families and partners and attend relevant court hearings.
