Odessa College invites applications for a Child Development Online Adjunct (Applicant Pool). This part-time instructor will deliver high-quality online courses, engage students, provide timely feedback, and maintain accurate course records.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher with demonstrated competencies in teaching.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in teaching or related field.
• Master’s degree or higher with at least 18 graduate course hours in teaching or related field.

Responsibilities

• Teaches assigned courses in the curriculum.
• Teaches Web, Web-enhanced, and ITV classes using various instructional technologies.
• Teaches Dual Credit classes at locations throughout the West Texas area.
• Assists with recruitment, advising, and retention activities and participates in committees.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field.
• Demonstrates willingness to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods.
• Uses coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
• Provides students with syllabi, policies, and assignment instructions.
• Administers tests including comprehensive final exams.
• Affirms the worth and dignity of all persons and the right to learn.

The Child Development Online Adjunct Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in child development courses through an online learning environment. The instructor will prepare and deliver course content, facilitate student engagement and discussions, evaluate student work, and provide timely feedback and support to students. The position requires effective communication, organization, and the ability to create an engaging and supportive online learning experience. The instructor will also maintain accurate course records, follow college policies and academic standards, and remain responsive to student needs throughout the course.

Specific Position Duties

• Teaches assigned courses in the curriculum.
• Teaches Web, Web-enhanced, and ITV classes as requested, using a variety of instructional technologies.
• Teaches Dual Credit classes at locations throughout the West Texas area.
• Assists with recruitment, advising, and retention activities, as well as participates in various departmental and campus-wide committees.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field.
• Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the College.
• Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
• Provides students with written expectations, including syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, and other course-related materials.
• Administers tests appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam that measures students’ overall understanding of course objectives.
• Through instruction and interaction with students, affirms the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn.
• Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, Web, or distance learning, that encourages the free exchange of ideas while supporting academic honesty and objectivity.
• Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, labs, and other scheduled instructional activities.
• Delivers course material in a clear and understandable manner.
• Addresses student concerns, including comments, questions, and input, both in class and through posted office hours, timely electronic communication, and other appropriate means.
• Demonstrates the ability to teach students from a wide spectrum of ages and from various cultural and social backgrounds, including high school students enrolled in Dual Credit classes.
• Demonstrates excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Demonstrates an excellent work ethic and commitment to teaching excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

• Any Associate’s degree or higher AND demonstrated competencies (ex. Relevant technical training, certification, experience, etc.) in the teaching discipline OR
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in the teaching discipline or a related field; OR
• any Master’s degree or higher and a minimum of 18 completed graduate course hours in the teaching discipline or a related field.
