Description
The Child Care Teacher is responsible for teaching in a fun and safe environment, creating an atmosphere that allows youth participants to develop new friendships, improve self-esteem, self-confidence, and strong social skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead youth participants in activities.
- Implement curriculum.
- Establish good rapport with parents and children.
- Keep accurate rosters and attendance records.
- Communicate regularly with afterschool coordinators, supervisors, and others.
- Provide a safe and clean environment for children.
- Reliably attend various hours and locations Monday - Friday, with varying hours.
Requirements
- Ability to relate and communicate well with children, parents, and other staff, both verbally and in writing.
- Positive attitude and willingness to be flexible, able to follow directions.
- Must have the physical and mental ability to teach a variety of athletic and enrichment programs and move equipment as necessary.
- Ability to sit on the floor or child-sized chair, stand for 1 hour periods.
- Occasionally lift 50 lbs, frequently lift 30 lbs, and crouch for 15-minute periods.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
- Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate management techniques.
Qualifications
- Must pass YMCA background check.
- DCYF portable background check.
- Must have 45 Early Childhood Education credits.
- Experience working with children and parents, preferably in a programming background.
- Infant and Adult Basic First Aid/CPR & BBP certification or the ability to acquire within 60 days.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must have TB Test prior to starting work.
- Food handlers' card.
- 30 basic stars hours or education equivalent acquired within 90 days.
- Safe sleep certificate through the DCYF student portal.
- Families experiencing homelessness certificate through the DCYF student portal.
- Medication Management certificate through the DCYF student portal.
- Abusive Head Trauma certificate through the DCYF student portal.
- Recognizing, Reporting, Child Abuse and Neglect certificate through the DCYF student portal.
