Job summary

The Learning Lamp in Ebensburg, PA is seeking Early Learning Substitute Staff to support child care centers during staffing gaps. We offer flexible hours, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

shifts, and a collaborative environment focused on growth. You will assist with feeding, diapering, and activities, follow schedules, support staff, and communicate with families while upholding safety and health standards. Part-time positions include a benefits package and childcare discounts; starting pay is $12 per hour

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Early Childhood Education certification is a plus.
• Prior experience with children and/or volunteering with kids.
• Willingness to pass required clearances and training: mandated reporter training, a physical, TB test.

Responsibilities

• Supervise indoor and outdoor activities to ensure safety.
• Assist with feeding, diapering, toileting, and basic care activities.
• Follow daily schedule and implement age-appropriate activities.
• Support classroom staff with games, arts and crafts, and learning activities.
• Maintain positive communication with parents, children, and staff.
• Encourage positive behavior and address challenging behaviors calmly.
• Maintain cleanliness and health standards in the classroom and facility.
• Assist with documentation related to daily activities and incidents.

Our Child Care Centers are looking to hire Early Learning Substitute Staff.

• Our centers are open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Substitute opportunities are available within these hours based on program and staffing needs.

What are the duties and responsibilities?

Supervision and Safety:

• Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
• Supervise indoor and outdoor activities, maintaining a secure environment.

Daily Care Activities:

• Assist with feeding, diapering, toileting, and other basic care routines.
• Foster independence in children by encouraging self-help skills appropriate to their age.

Curriculum Implementation:

• Follow the daily schedule and implement age-appropriate activities.
• Support classroom staff with games, arts and crafts, learning activities, and other developmental experiences.

Communication:

• Maintain positive communication with parents, children, and fellow staff members.
• Collaborate with colleagues to help ensure consistent care and support for children.

Behavior Management:

• Encourage positive behavior through patience, redirection, and positive reinforcement.
• Address challenging behaviors in a calm and professional manner.

Health and Hygiene:

• Help maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards within the classroom and facility.
• Follow all health and safety procedures and administer basic first aid when necessary.

Record-Keeping:

• Assist with documentation related to daily activities, incidents, and observations as needed.

Parental Involvement:

• Support positive relationships with families through professional and respectful communication.

Schedule and Availability:

• Must be flexible and available to work shifts based on program and staffing needs.
• Opportunities may include summer work, school breaks, holidays, and other as-needed shifts.

What are the required qualifications?

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Early Childhood Education certification is a plus.
• Previous experience with children. Have you volunteered with children before? Are you a former or retired teacher? All of these are examples of some of the many ways our staff have experience with children.
• Willingness to go through and pass the required clearances and training to ensure the safety and security of our children, including: mandated reporter training, a physical, and a TB test. This can typically be accomplished within a week to get you started.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
• Capacity for sitting, standing, walking, bending and stopping for long periods of time, as these happen throughout the eight-hour day.
• Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• CPR and first aid certification.
• Patience, creativity, and a genuine love for working with children.
