Job summary

Gaudenzia, Inc. in Erie, PA seeks a caregiver within the House of Healing Women's Program. This role supports women and children in residence, delivering childcare activities and early intervention, while modeling recovery-oriented behaviors.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED and knowledge of child care, addiction services, and counseling; you will work Monday–Friday with occasional weekends and must maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of child care, prevention activities and early childhood development.
• Knowledge of basic principles, practices, and procedures involved in an alcohol and drug program.
• Knowledge of the drug and alcohol abusing subculture.
• Knowledge of the physical and emotional characteristics and manifestations of alcohol and drug dependency.
• Knowledge of individual and group behavior and the effective ways of working with them.

Responsibilities

• Implement the care and activities of children in residence and manage all activities of the childcare component.
• Implement Drug & Alcohol early intervention/prevention activities for the children.
• Continue specialized training as designated by the Supervisor.
• Provide individual and group counseling for the children/mothers; monitor emotional/psychological status of children and arrange/refer referrals to ancillary clinical services when indicated.
• Assist in conducting mother-child and family therapeutic sessions in conjunction with other clinical staff.
• Maintain clinical records and confidentiality procedures of the Child Care component.
• Maintain contact with outside agencies and consulting/information resources for the development of the Child Care component.
• Provide training and guidance to adult residents in childcare and parenting skills; observe parent/child interactions and advise on adjustments.
• Participate in regular consultations with other clinical staff concerning mother/child relationships and needs of the children.
• Monitor educational progress of the children and maintain contact with school; arrange tutoring when necessary; communicate with mothers about educational needs and progress.
• Maintain valid driver's license.
• Other duties as assigned by Program Director or Recovery Support Supervisor.
