Job summary

Rainbow's End Learning Center, part of PathWays, is seeking a caring Cook for a part-time schedule from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday. You will prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks for children from 6 weeks to school age in a warm, safe childcare setting.

The role emphasizes following cycle menus, accommodating dietary needs, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and supporting classroom staff. Benefits include paid training, PTO, holidays, and a 403(b) plan.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years (or 2,500 hours) working with children.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain and maintain).
  • Clearances required: PA State Police, FBI, PA Child Abuse, NSOR, plus any required residency histories.
  • Health assessment and Mantoux tuberculin skin test on hire and every two years.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children.
  • Follow approved cycle menus and health, safety, and nutrition regulations.
  • Accommodate children's dietary needs and allergies.
  • Maintain kitchen inventory and submit supply requests.
  • Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and inspection-ready.
  • Support classroom staff and provide break coverage.
  • Assist with basic childcare needs as needed (hygiene, dressing, routines).
  • Be a positive role model and interact with children throughout the day.

We're looking for a caring, dependable Cook who enjoys preparing nutritious meals and being part of a fun, supportive childcare environment. This is a part-time position, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with holidays off.

As our Cook, you'll do more than prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks, you'll become an important part of each child's day. From serving healthy meals to sharing smiles during lunchtime, you'll help create a warm, safe, and welcoming environment for children ages 6 weeks through school age.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Every day is a little different! Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Following approved cycle menus and all health, safety, and nutrition regulations
  • Accommodating children's special dietary needs and allergies
  • Maintaining food inventory and submitting supply requests
  • Keeping the kitchen clean, organized, and inspection-ready
  • Supporting classroom staff as needed, including providing break coverage
  • Assisting with basic childcare needs when needed, including hygiene, dressing, and other daily routines
  • Being a positive role model and interacting with children throughout the day
  • Adapting to changing program needs, staffing, and enrollment

Requirements
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years (or 2,500 documented hours) working with children
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain and maintain)
  • Ability to complete all required pre-employment clearances, including:
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Clearance
  • FBI Clearance
  • PA Child Abuse Clearance
  • National Sex Offender Registry Clearance
  • Additional state/FBI clearances if required by residency history
  • Health assessment and Mantoux tuberculin skin test upon hire (and every two years thereafter)
  • Preferred:
  • Two years of cooking, food preparation, or nutrition experience
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Lift and move up to 30 pounds independently (heavier items with assistance)
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and move throughout the day
  • Participate in active childcare, including running, climbing, reaching, lifting, and assisting children as needed
  • Maintain the physical stamina needed in a fast-paced childcare environment
