Job description

Child and Youth Training and Curriculum Specialist

Join us for the Child and Youth Training and Curriculum Specialist role at Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR).

Summary

Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP) offers high-quality early care and youth services in center-based (birth - five), facility-based (age 5-12), and recreational environments (teen; youth sports and fitness). The Training and Curriculum Specialist facilitates learning and professional development of CYP employees, including new hire orientation, and works across all CYP components.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Orienting new employees to the CYP system and providing foundational information applicable across settings.
  2. Collaborating with CYP Directors to establish and coordinate training plans for employees and providers.
  3. Providing tailored training for different age groups and executing DoN Standardized Module Training, including ongoing annual training.
  4. Maintaining training records, developing professional development programs, and encouraging higher education pursuits.
  5. Supporting classroom/program quality by ensuring curriculum implementation, observing staff, and recommending improvements.
  6. Ensuring compliance with safety, fire, sanitation, and accreditation standards.
  7. Performing additional duties as assigned, including acting as CYP Director in their absence and mandatory reporting of child abuse or neglect.

Requirements include:

  • Background checks, drug testing, immunizations, and physical fitness.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, walk, stand, bend, and stoop.
  • Age 18 or older and ability to obtain security clearances.
  • Certification in required training and credentials, including CDA or MSA, as applicable.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of child and youth development principles, laws, and accreditation standards.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and conducting training and curriculum development.
  • Effective communication skills in English and leadership abilities.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required; college transcripts if applicable.
  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with 1 year of experience, OR
  • 4-year degree with 3 years of experience, OR
  • Related coursework with 3 years of experience.
