Qualifications

Child and Family Therapist - Madison Youth Ranch

The Child and Family Therapist of the Florida United Methodist Children's Home for the Madison Youth Ranch provides in-depth clinical assessment and treatment of children and families. The Child and Family Therapist conducts individual, group, and family therapy sessions, monitors progress on treatment plan goals, and provides general oversight of the implementation of the treatment plan goals.

EDUCATION

  1. Active Florida LCSW, LMHC or LMFT is required
  2. Masters Degree in Human Services or related field from a nationally accredited college or university
  3. Experience working with children with history of complex trauma, mental health, and behavioral disorders

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Familiarity with utilization review process preferred
  2. Ability to organize and generate billable Medicaid documentation in a timely manner
  3. Minimum one year experience working in a crisis or child welfare environment (crisis stabilization unit, group care)
  4. Be willing and able to work with difficult youth and their families
  5. Be able to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with all clients, parents, staff, stakeholders, and providers
  6. Be computer literate and able to document case information electronically
  7. Have workable understanding of appropriate theory and methodology
  8. Ability to develop and implement evidenced based treatment goals and interventions
  9. Must be able to work within the philosophy of services to children and families consistent with the ministry and goals of the Florida United Methodist Children's Home (trauma focused model of care)
  10. Ability to properly assess and diagnose based upon DSM IV and V
  11. Sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
  12. Valid Florida Driver’s license

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides individual, group, and family therapy to the residents and their families
  2. Documents clinical information and billing according to Medicaid and agency standards
  3. Completes required paperwork upon assignment of new admissions
  4. Completes discharge summary at discharge
  5. Maintains case records
  6. Meets productivity standards while maintaining established standard of care
  7. Administers the Children’s Functional Assessment Rating Scale on all children in assigned caseload
  8. Attends psychiatric appointments and other meetings/staffings as required, interacts with case managers, Guardian ad Litems, and other professional staff
  9. Provides oversight for behavioral health programming associated with the treatment plan for all children in assigned caseload
  10. Provides training to direct care staff in the particular components of the treatment plan and behavioral management components
  11. Serves as an on call staff for assigned home
  12. Ensures staff participation in team decisions
  13. Arranges home visits for the residents
  14. Works as the liaison between the Home and the family / caseworker / agency
  15. Coordinates community resources as needed by individual residents
  16. Facilitates treatment plan review/changeover meetings
  17. Is responsive when there is a need for crisis counseling
  18. Participates in the performance and quality improvement process
  19. Ability to set appropriate limits and boundaries with clients, families, and staff members
  20. Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  21. Registers child in school and attends all school meetings including IEP or disciplinary meetings
  22. Participates in DCF staffing and recommending decision making permanency outcome for residents
  23. Supervises / provides therapeutic phone calls / contact with family
  24. Once certified, facilitates weekly equine therapy sessions
  25. Sets up appointments with psychiatrist
  26. Baker Acts residents as needed
  27. Completes MARS if nurse is unavailable
  28. Ensures all significant incident reports sent out to agency
  29. Works with FUMCH admission team to facilitate MYR admissions
  30. Serves as MYR representative on subcommittee(s) as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Reviews and signs off on documentation of any unlicensed therapist
  2. In the absence of the Director of Clinical Services, provides supervision of staff, as directed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and committee members.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Florida Driver’s License, Active Florida LCSW, LMHC, or LMFT license
